STRONG START AS VAN ENGLEN PODIUMS IN SHARJAH

Adne van Engelen impressed at the Tour of Sharjah, securing third overall in the general classification with consistent stage results, marking a strong start to the season for TSG.

Terengganu Cycling Team (TSG) kept their early-season momentum rolling with a solid outing at the Tour of Sharjah, which wrapped up in the United Arab Emirates on Tuesday.

Dutch rider Adne van Engelen delivered the highlight for the Kuala Terengganu-based squad, finishing third overall in the individual general classification. He trailed Marcin Budzinski of MHG Bank CSB Telecom Fort by just three seconds, while Rein Taaramae of Kinan Racing claimed the overall crown in 11 hours, 10 minutes and 7 seconds.

TSG also secured sixth place in the team standings, with Kinan taking top honours. The team’s line-up in Sharjah featured Nur Amirull Fakhruddin Mazuki, Shahmir Aiman Abdul Halim, Nur Aiman Zariff, Vadim Pronskiy and new signing Pierre Barbier alongside van Engelen.

Van Engelen impressed with a podium finish in Stage 2 from Sharjah Souq Al Jubail to Kalba and a fourth-place effort in Stage 4 from Dibba Al Hisn Island to Al Suhub Mountain.

“I’m really pleased with how the week went,” said van Engelen.

“I was there when it mattered, even managed a podium when I didn’t expect it, and the time trial went well too. To start the season with third overall is a great sign for the year ahead.”

The result adds to TSG’s encouraging start to 2026. Just last week, Australian recruit Fergus Browning won the prologue at the inaugural Pune Grand Tour, helping the team to a top-three finish in the overall standings.

Browning is one of three new foreign signings this season, joining Barbier from France and Zeb Kyffin from England.

Meanwhile, Kyffin, Browning, Mathias Bregnhoj, Juan Pedro Lozano, Wan Abdul Rahman Hamdan, Kee Zhe Yie and Nur Aiman Rosli are currently flying the TSG flag at the Alula Tour in Saudi Arabia, a UCI ProSeries event.
